Mosaics Murals and More

Welcome to the Mosaics, Murals, and More Group, showcasing the ancient-to-modern artistic expression of mosaic, mural, fresco, tapestry, stained glass, bas-relief, paper/fabric arts, and more! ALL MEDIUMS ACCEPTED.

PLEASE NOTE: If you submit AI-, digital-, or computerized-crafted art, please keep in mind the group theme that images should appear with a mosaic, tapestry, fresco, mural, stained glass, paper/fabric, or bas-relief effect. Those images that follow this guideline have a better chance of being accepted into the main group gallery, being featured, being Top of the Top featured, and becoming a monthly group logo. Top of the Top Features are selected each week from weekly features, at least five entries per week.

Please no graphic nudity, no evil-inspired images. The administrator has the right to remove entries that do not meet the group guidelines.

Mosaics can be 2-d wall art or 3-dimensional art. This art form decorates a surface with tesserae, stone, glass, tile, shells, ceramic, and other materials. It is similar to painting. It is most often time consuming and tedious work, but the finished product if well done is enduring and captivating. Mosaics originated in Mesopotamia in the third millennium BCE. They decorated much of Ancient Rome and Greece and remain today intact or in ruins. Mosques and churches are prevalent places to find mosaic art. And today, modern mosaics delight as well with less traditional approaches.

Murals and frescoes are wall paintings seen and appreciated worldwide, whether in primitive settings or Renaissance art or modern murals. Bas-relief art is sculpture that emanates from a wall or other surface into a 3-d effect. Tapestries are heavy cloth with pictures or designs woven into them used for wall hangings, curtains, etc., with an ancient/medieval origin. Paper/fabric art is associated with the group theme.

IMPORTANT: Each week on feature day the admin will select featured artwork for promotion to Top of the Top features. These ToT's will be awarded with a comment and a fav. They will be archived in the ToT discussion thread provided each month. You are encouraged to post your ToT's in the thread with comments. It is an honor to receive this promotion for your artwork, so always submit your best for a chance at this reward.

The home page will be updated weekly on Mondays. Limit 1 submission per day.
